A fragment (consisting of roughly one third) of the upper stone of a rotary hand mill or quern. The date of the quern is uncertain but probably dates from the Roman to Medieval periods. There is a sub circular recess on the upper face of the quern which would have acted as a socket for a long handle. The maximum diameter of the recess is approximately 15.6mm. The upper face of the quern is uneven. The reverse is flat apart from a sub rectangular recess next to the interior side of the quern. The quern is discoid in shape.
