Object type: HOARD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Published
In 2012 a Middle Bronze Age hoard was discovered while metal detecting on cultivated land. The find consists of 41 copper alloy objects split across two deposits or concentrations of finds, with a small number of finds found a short distance away. All the objects are of a similar typo-chronology and are likely to represent a single hoard comprised of 31 'ornaments', 8 'tools' and 4 'other' or unidentified objects.
The artefacts were recovered by the finders from two deposits in close proximity (c.2-3m apart), with two pits subsequently identified by a local amateur archaeology grou…

Object type: KEY (LOCKING)
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A slightly corroded and abraded medieval cast copper-alloy casket key. The key has a seemingly solid stem of oval cross-section with a hollow end. The bow is circular in shape with evidence of some circumferential losses, with a circular perforation (Ext. dia.: 14.6mm, Int. dia.: 8.9mm). At the other end, the bit is of simple rectangular form; the lower half seems to be damaged with part now absent. a similar key can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 71; ref. 534). This artefact has corroded to a variable mid-grey/green colour.

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A corroded cast copper-alloy mount of post-medieval date. The mount is flat and symmetrical. It has a trefoil terminal, with a broadly trapezoidal body below that terminates unevenly, suggesting a previous continuation of the artefact. The upper surface of the mount is decorated in low relief created through vertically symmetrical curving foliate patterns in the form of fronds emerging from the centre line. The reverse features a single lug which begins at the extremity of the terminal and curves round towards the centre, presumably paired with a similar lug at the opposite end, now a…
