Copper alloy bead or decorative fitting of uncertain date possibly Late Iron Age or Roman The bead is complete and is of globular form (with an external diameter of 23.1mm -24.4mm and a weight of 27.9g), with gently convex faces producing an oval section (with a thickness of 11.8mm). The sub-circular perforation (4.0mm - 4.9mm) is not central and is cast into the bead, rather than drilled. Both faces are decorated around the perforation; one side has an incised border, in which are incised radiating lines. The other face has an incised border, which is misplaced to produce a cresce…

The spindle-whorl is of sub-rectangular section (7.9-8.4mm thick) with slightly flat faces. The perforation is central and is circular (5.0mm diameter) with straight parallel sides. The underside has a comparatively heavy attachment loop (6.8mm thick, 13.7mm long and 6.8mm high) of D-shaped section. Ceramic spindle whorl of uncertain date, probably Roman to Medieval .The spindle-whorl is near circular (with a diameter of 34.4mm) and of sub-rectangular section (with a thickness of 9.3mm) with some damage to the edge. There is slight curvature on both faces (one face is convex and the other concave), suggesting the spindle-whorl is made on a body sherd of a large vessel. The central aperture is circular with parallel straight sides (8.0mm). The pottery fabric is well fired and coarse with quartz inclusions. The pottery may be of Roman or medieval date. The whorl has a weight o…

Utilised animal bone of uncertain date The bone is incomplete, missing the proximal end (with a surviving length of 216mm and a weight of 333.6g) and is a metatarsal from a large bovine, probably an auroch. The damaged end of the bone is heavily eroded and worn, with a number of worn abrasions near the end, suggestive of animal gnawing. There is a circular perforation (9.5mm diameter) near the distal end, positioned at the centre and adjacent to the medial trochlea. The perforation is regular and parallel-sided, suggesting it was drilled with a metal bit. Other than the perforation,…
