Roman copper alloy vessel spout
The spout appears to be near-complete (with a weight of 42.5g), suggesting it is from a vessel constructed from composite parts. The component piece is of a sub-triangular form with two convex sides and projecting points at the top corners (producing a width of 52.1mm, a length of 45.8mm and a depth of 30mm). The top face is slightly concave and is decorated with three moulded ribs either side of an open triangle (11.2mm x 9.2mm). The side faces are gently convex across their lengths and concave across their widths, towards the spout (where the walls h…

Roman glass sherd from a vessel
The sherd is from the rim of a vessel with no curvature in either its width or height, suggesting a square vase or similar (with a surviving length of 44.0mm, a surviving height of 24.7mm and a weight of 6.3g). The sherd thickens slightly towards the rim (with a thickness of 2.6 - 3.4mm). The glass has a blue-green colour and the rim is bevelled towards one face (with a maximum thickness of 5.5mm).

Roman copper alloy vessel lid from a jug, probably of 1st century AD date
The jug is represented by the lid, which is heavily-corroded with extensive peripheral corrosion (with a surviving length of 36.6mm, a surviving width of 30.2mm and a weight of 12.9g). The lid was likely to have been of rounded trefoil form and is slightly convex across its length. The lid appears the gradually thickened to its midpoint (with a maximum thickness of 4.3mm). The start of the looped lug for the hinge is evident (with a surviving depth of 6.8mm). At the centre is a damaged sub-triangular projection…

Roman copper alloy vessel foot, probably of 1st to 2nd century AD date
The foot is complete but corroded (with a length of 53.8mm, a width of 14.8mm and a weight of 23.2g) and is of pelta shape, with protruding knops near the ends. The foot is of sub-rectangular section (8.2mm thick). The circumference arc of the outside edge would suggest that the vessel had a radius at the base of 45mm. The foot is enhanced on one side with an incised border next to the edge and the face has a groove at the centre of each of the ends. The vessel foot has a dark green surface patina, where it surv…

The surface has a pale-green patina with paler areas of surface loss.
The fragment is unidentifiable, possibly a fitting of Roman date.

The fitting is cast in the round and appears to be complete (with a length of 22.5mm, a height of 17.1mm, a maximum thickness of 10.4mm and a weight of 7.8g). It comprises a stylised animal, resembling a sheep with an exaggerated, bulbous rear. Both the two front and the two rear feet are joined with an integral bar (1.4mm at the front and 2.4mm at the rear). Circular apertures are defined by the bar, the legs and the body of the animal (of 3.6mm diameter). No surface detail is now evident on the fitting. The body is…

At the end of the loop is groove, before an arm of sub-rectangular section. The mid-part of the arm has a decorative rib (7.4mm wide). The fitting has broken through another terminal loop, which also has iron corrosion in the centra…

Roman copper alloy decorative mount, known as 'bell-shaped stud'
The stud is near-complete, missing the iron shank and some of the periphery of the head (with a weight of 13.1g). The underside of the stud has adhering iron corrosion, from the remnants of the iron shank, indicating the stud is of Allason-Jones (198, p 95) Type I; and the corrosion suggests the shank was of sub-rectangular section. The base of the stud is of circular section (13.5mm diameter) before flaring to the rim (where the stud has a maximum diameter of 26.4mm and has a thickness of 1.6-1.9mm). The central boss …

Lead steelyard weight possibly of Roman date
The lead weight is of biconical form and has lost the iron suspension loop or loops (with a surviving length of 32.3mm). The iron wire protrudes from the base of the weight and indicates the weight may have had a loop either side. The weight is widest around its midsection (with a diameter of 25.2mm) and is undecorated.
The weight has few diagnostic features and weighs 54.6g which closely corresponds to one sixth of a libra (Roman pound) or a two drachma weight (54.58 g), although a 54.6g weight is also consistent with a modern 2 ounce …

The pin is near-complete but is distorted (with a distorted length of 40.6mm, a straightened length of approximately 91mm and a weight of 4.4g). The shaft of the pin protrudes beyond an applied head (3.9mm) and it is possible that a separate decorative knop or bead was applied to the apex, probably of glass, amber or similar. The pin shaft is faceted and grooved at the top (with a diameter of 3.6mm), possibly to accommodate the lost bead. The head is separate to the shaft and there is an open seam evident on one side.
