Medieval copper alloy annular brooch of 13th or 14th century
The brooch is fragmentary, represented by approximately half of the original (with a surviving width of 23.1mm and a weight of 8.2g). The frame was open and of annular type (with a diameter of 44mm). The outside edge of the frame was octagonal with gently concave sides. The interior of the frame was circular (24mm diameter). Medieval iron socketed arrowhead, probably of 11th to 14th century date The arrowhead is incomplete, missing one of the wings and the barb from the surviving wing (with a length of 72.1mm, a surviving width of 19.9mm and a weight of 13.0g). Although incomplete, the arrowhead would appear to be allied to Jessop's (1997) 'Early Multi-Purpose Forms' of arrowhead. The socket is sub-circular (with an external diameter of 11.1mm and an internal diameter of 6mm) and is filled with iron corrosion.
