A complete lead spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date. The spindle whorl is a flat disc with a central perforation running through it. It is undecorated. The spindle whorl is 20.97mm in diameter, 4.89mm thick and weighs 12.22g. The perforation is 5.5mm in diameter. Lead spindle whorls were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty. Decorated examples are thought to date to the medieval to post-medieval periods while undecorated examples cannot be securely dated without supporting contextual evidence.

A complete lead spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation running through it. Both surfaces are decorated with irregularly spaced and orientated linear decoration. The spindle whorl is 29.2mm in diameter, 17.12mm thick and weighs 42.06g. The perforation is 10.0mm in diameter. Lead spindle whorls were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty. An Anglo-Saxon gold shilling of the 'York' group, type C. The coin is one of 19 known examples of the 'York' group of Gold Shillings. These were struck in the first half of the seventh century, the first coinage ever made in the town of York. Until recently their attribution to a mint in York was uncertain but recent finds, which show a clear Yorkshire focus, have made this attribution very likely.
