Object type: DRESS HOOK
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy, English jetton of Medieval date that has been re-purposed as a dress hook by the addition of a narrow, pointed oval, strip of metal on the reverse in the same way as a nummular brooch. The strip is riveted through the centre of the jetton. The strip tapers at both ends and bends upwards, but is incomplete. It may have been a double hook or a hook and a loop. The jetton appears to be an untidy imitation or copy of an Anglo-Gallic or English jetton. The edges are missing. No parallel for this imitation jetton has been found in Mitchiner, Berry nor https://www.mernick…
