A fragment of slate tablet, or writing slate of late Post medieval to modern, date, about AD 1850 - 1950.  The fragment has a chapfered edge, probably indicating it was made in a factory and designed to have a wooden frame applied to the edge. Frames are thought to have been routinely added to slates from the mid 19th century (Shaffrey, 2022, Finds Reserach Group Datasheet 56). The slate is also marked with guidelines. There is a grid of 8mm square on one face and parallel ruled lines spaced 16mm apart on the other face. The fragment is 38.3mm long, 22.8mm wide and 3.3mm…

A fragment of stone or lead ore (galena), probably from a lead mining operation of uncertain date, Roman to Medieval, AD 43 - 1600. It is from an area where there was Roman lead mining, but it could also have been extracted at a later date. It is hard and fine grained, dark grey in patches on the surface, and light grey in other areas. There are small angular clear quartz inclusions embedded in the matrix. The sample is 47.4mm long; 29.3mm wide and 21mm thick. It weighs 101.05g.

A possible stone cannon ball of Late Medieval to Post Medieval date. It is sub-spherical and made from what appears to be igneous rock, perhaps granite with possible feldspar seams. It is 50.1mm in diameter and weighs 145g. At just under 2 inches diameter, this ball is the right size for a Falconet cannon. Falconets were invented in the late 15th century and were used throughout the 16th and 17th centuries.

A possible stone cannon ball of medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1450- 1700. It is sub-spherical and made from what appears to be igneous rock, perhaps granite with possible feldspar inclusions. At 2.6 inches diameter, this ball is just too big for a Falcon cannon. A stone which has had a partial hole drilled in it, from both faces, of uncertain age, from Mesolithic to Modern. The unfinished perforated stone could have been intended to be a weight. The stone appears to be very finely grained and is roughly rectangular, with one long edge that bulges at one end. Both the upper and lower faces are flat - probably a natually fractured cobble which has then been water worn. The hole through the stone is incomplete. It has been drilled from both sides, one side being drilled deeper than the other. The sides of the hole appears to be straight, with a …

A water worn stone pebble which was recovered because it is not the usually occurring geology in this area. It is a light grey-brown in colour with some dark inclusions and a few flecks of quartz. It is probably a type of granite. It is rounded to a triangular shape. It does not appear to be related to any manufacturing process but is recorded in case it is an exotic feature which has been brought to the site by human activity.
