A late Medieval or early Post-Medieval lead alloy groat sized Boy Bishop token dating from AD 1465 to 1555. The obverse carries a portrait of a boy, facing half right, wearing a mitre and with a crozier to his left. The obverse legend is largely indecipherable but the remaining portion reads [...]NCTVS [...] suggesting that it is one of the usual obverse legends, probably SANCTVS NICOLAVS ORA PRO NOBIS. The reverse has a long cross pattee with three pellets in each angle dividing two rows of legend in the style of Medieval groats. The reverse legend …

A large, Post-Medieval to Modern pewter spoon probably dating from the nineteenth century, AD 1800 - 1900. The stem is of oval section, terminating in a flat handle with a rounded outer end. The terminal is stamped with a ornate crown flanked by gothic style letters which probably read WR. This may suggest the spoon dates from the reign of William IV (1830 - 1837). Below this stamp is a possible maker's name: SH[...]RRY. The bowl of the spoon is oval and blunt end, though the tip is damaged making the original shape difficult to determine. The spoon has suffered considerable…

A lead inscribed object, perhaps a tag or label, of Post-Medieval or modern date, AD1750 - 1950. It consists of a sub-rectangular strip of lead or lead alloy or white metal, slightly curved, broken at one end and tapering slightly towards the other end which has rounded corners. At the outer, broken end are faint inscribed letters in an italic script, possibly reading Green. There is a dark greenish-grey patina and both sides are speckled with small spots of a thin, white concretion. This is particularly on the side with the lettering; it is much less prevalent on the other side. The …

A fragment of a lead alloy (probably pewter) object, possibly part of a strap end of Early Medieval date, but more likely to be a Post Medieval spoon handle dating from AD 1600 - 1800. In plan it is a narrow rectangle and both short ends are broken. The material is laminated. It appears to be constructed from two main sheets on top of each other, but this may be an illusion. The reverse is undecorated but the front is decorated with two rows of ring and dot motifs, one running laterally along each of the long edges of the rectangle. Each ring is in low relief and sits within a counter…

Two separate pieces of an unidentified, lead alloy artefact, of uncertain date, probably AD 500 - 1800. It is possible that they are part of the head of an Early Medieval great square headed brooch, or a model for one, dating from AD 500 - 570. The two pieces do not join, and it is uncertain what shape it was originally. It seems most likely to have been a rectangular or square plaque. The reverse is plain and flat. A cast lead artefact, possibly a bi-conical spindle whorl of Roman, Medieval or post-Medieval date, AD 43 - 1600. It is bi-conical with a pronounced casting seam forming a median band, and the remains of the casting sprue visible. The central circular aperture is about 6mm diameter, which is a size which Walton Rogers suggests can indicate an Iron Age to Roman date. Walton Rogers suggests that biconical whorls fade away in the 7th century, reappearing after AD 1100.
