A nearly complete Medieval iron arrowhead of military attribution, dating from the late 14th-15th centuries AD. Jessop Type: M1 or M2. The arrowhead sub-triangular in plan, with a thin-walled central socket which is concoidal and has flat wings attached, now damaged from old breaks. It has an overall dark reddish-brown colour and may have been treated for stability by the finder, giving the surface a sheen. The arrowhead measures 47.5 mm long, 16.9 mm wide, 11.5 mm thick and weighs 11.3 grams, with an internal socket of approximately 8 mm deep and an approximately socket diameter of 1…

Object type: REAPING HOOK
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete corroded iron possible reaping-hook due to its size, shape and thickness. The object curves and tapers to a point and is sub-rectangular in section. The wider end of the object is broken. Because of these old breaks the attachment-end is missing, but due to the shape and thickness of the object it probably finishes in a flanged socket similar to Manning 1985, p.54, fig. 14. This object would benefit from further conservation and analysis, particularly in order to gain further insight into the object's original shape and how it was manufactured (i.e. wrought, etc).

Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A nearly complete iron knife blade and tang, probably dating to either the Roman or Medieval periods (c. 1st-4th c; c. 11th-15th century AD). The knife consists of a blade which is sub-triangular in plan, with a nearly straight back and slightly curved edge; the tang tapers, is square-shaped in section and is positioned on the midline of the blade. A portion of the tang seems to have broken off at the end, and the tip of the blade has been bent backwards onto itself. The iron surface is intact, but highly corroded, with some slivers sheering off easily. The knife measures 129 mm long;…
