A severely worn Medieval silver penny of Edwardian issue, dating from AD 1279-1377. Archiepiscopal mint of York. Although much of the detail is unclear due to severe surface wear, it is possible to identify bi-foliate side-fleurs on the obverse crown and a quatrefoil with pellet in the centre of the reverse, indicating the archiepiscopal issue of York. Edwardian coins minted at the archiepiscopal mint of York are quite common in the Fourth Coinage, pre-Treaty period of Edward III, dating from AD 1351-1377 and it is possible that this penny is of that type.
