A nearly complete cast copper-alloy Modern zoomorphic figurine of an owl in the style of a Greek or Roman figurine, probably 19th-20th century in date. The owl is embellished by means of two incised ring-and-dot eyes; one of which retains a vivid bright blue enamel with both eyes retaining an orange encrustation possibly the remains of further enamel in those areas. A Post Medieval to early Modern zoomorphic cast copper-alloy vessel leg, probably dating to the early to late 19th century AD. The vessel leg is zoomorphic, probably depicting a ram, with its head moulded depicting symmetrical inwardly-spiralling horns, curly forelock, large pointed oval ears, with almond-shaped eyes surmounded by hairy brows followed by an elongated snout and long furry neck. The head transitions into one enlarged hind quarter with leg angled perpendicular to its face, terminating in a cloven hoof. The reverse of the vessel foot is shallowly hollowed at the face with…

A complete silver ear ring of probably 19th century date. The ear ring consists of a hollowed crescentic ear ring hoop, which is pointed oval in cross-section. The hollow ear ring hoop seems to have been formed around a shaft of probable silver. One end of the hoop is pierced with a small circular silver rivet, which holds the curved ear ring shaft in place; the shaft still articulates from this rivet-point and rests in the hollow opening of the other side of the hoop.

Object type: BADGE
Broad period: MODERN
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A nearly complete copper alloy head-dress ('cap') badge for The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey), missing only its fastener. This particular style and metal make it likely that the badge dates to a new type introduced c. 1924, which was subsequently used during WWI and replaced by a plastic economy style in WWII. This type of regimental badge depicts the Paschal Lamb, which was altered to stand upon a torse instead of the original title-scroll, carrying a square banner with cross over its right shoulder. It is possible that this badge dates to a later version created for the beret…

A complete copper alloy trade weight, dating to the Victorian period (Modern, 1837-1901 AD). This particular trade weight was verified in London, as notated by the stamp depicting the shield of St. George and the Ewer, but the portcullis circle mark indicates that this weight was made or sold in Westminster, which was a part of London outside of the jurisdiction of the Founders Company (Biggs1992, 54). The weight was then stamped with SUSSEX and a wide crown in the centre when it was distributed to the region. This particular example currently weighs 6.39 grams; weights of an ounce or…
