A small sized cast lead palm guard of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1500 -1800. The palm guard is sub ovate with a slight D-shaped cross section and worn edges. A single shallow circular recess ( 6.5mm diameter ) is present to one surface. The metal is a very pale grey, almost white colour.  Palm guards of this design are thought to have been cast in oyster shells as evidenced in Portable Antiquities Scheme record number IOW-A9A877 in which the shell remains.
