The base of a copper alloy seal box dating to the Roman period, c. AD 100 to 300. The object is tear-drop shaped in plan and flat with outwardly bent edges. The chape is sub-triangular in plan with two longer, outwardly curving sides and two semi-circular notches cut out of the shorter, third side creating an openwork, crenellated effect. A complete copper alloy casket key of medieval date, c. AD 1150 to 1450. The key is small with a circular cross section. The circular bow extends from one end of the stem with a circular perforation and is separated from the stem by a collar which has diagonal, incised lines across it. The opposite end of the stem tapers to a point with a bit projecting out at 90 degrees. There are two small sub-rectangular clefts and another cleft in the shape of a trefoil. Similar objects are reccorded on the PAS database, see for example YORYM-FF0C01.
