An incomplete gold mount, possibly of medieval date (AD 1350-1550). The mount is a slightly convex sexfoil in the form of a flower with six petals and circular recessed centre. Each of the "petals" has a hammered pellet at each side and a central incised linear decoration which creates the impression of foliage .The reverse of the mount is slightly concave with a recessed aspect centrally which is the result of a broken projection/spur which would have been used to affix the mount to clothing. A similar example is illustrated in Egan, Dress Accessories, 2002, P 243, no 1297.
