A copper-alloy pin from a disc-on-pin buckle of Redmayne Type A4 ('four rivets' type). The pin has an integral sub-circular panel with four rivet holes, one of which retains a copper-alloy rivet. To one side is a curved projection forming a hook, which would originally have wrapped around the buckle frame; to the other is a straight projection. Compare PUBLIC-819484. These buckles are medieval, perhaps 13th or 14th century.

Buckles of this type have been classified by Marshall as type IIID and were used to attach spurs.

An incomplete post medieval double-loop buckle dating to the period AD c. 1660-1720. The frame is sub-rectangular in plan with curved corners. The inner side of the frame curves inwards along the long sides towards the pin. The tongue is missing but the chape is still in place although the terminal is fractured. It is likely that this terminal would have either been of the stud or the anchor type. Buckles of this type where used during this period on shoes and also to fasten breeches below the knee (see Marshall Type V buckles).

An incomplete post medieval double loop buckle dating to the period c. 1720-1790. The frame is rectangular in plan and the pin runs the length of the frame rather than the width. The pin is still in place although highly corroded. There is evidence for two tongues and it appears that they are integral to the spindle. Marshall has suggested that buckles of this type were used on hats and breeches although due to the size of this one and the lack of chape it is possible that it was used for fastening garters.

A complete copper alloy buckle frame dating to the period c. 1550 to 1700. The buckle is asymmetrical with a central strap and tongue bar. There are two loops, one is rectangular and the other is D-shaped with two knops on the curve of the D-shaped loop.
