A complete silver penny of the Commonwealth dating to the period AD 1649 to 1660. North number 2729. The coin has been gilded, perhaps to pass it off as a more valuable denomination. There is no visible sign of attachment or piercing so it seems unlikely it was taken out of circulation. There are gilded examples of silver coins dating to the Tudor period, including SWYOR-B3A4D0 and HAMP-8D0E55.
