A silver hammered short-cross penny of Henry III (North 978A). The obverse depicts a forward facing bust with a sceptre cutting the legend and also acting as an initial mark. There is some wear at the 7 o'clock position over the legend which reads HENRICVS REX. The reverse is of a short cross with a quatrefoil in each quarter. The reverse legends reads +ROGER ON CANT.

There a cut into the coin along the side of the long cross on the reverse, perhaps an attempt to cut down the coin into a cut halfpenny.

All that remains of the coin is one quarter which has been cut according to the long cross on the reverse, presumably to create a smaller denomination. The obverse depicts one of the curls to the right of the forward facing bust and there is a pellet in the centre. The legend reads ...NRIC... which is part of the name Henry.
