A complete pointed oval seal matrix dating to the medieval period, c. 1200 to 1300. The object is flat, with some edges damaged. The back of the object has the remains of a suspension loop present. The front of the object has incised decoration with a legend around the outside which reads * S' ELINORE: FIL'. PET (Seal of Eleanor, daughter of Pet[er]) The motif in the centre of the matrix is unclear but features a central vertical line with two horizontal lines crossing it. The horizontal lines curve away from each before sharply pointing back on themselves. There are four pellet…

An incomplete lead seal matrix of Medieval date (AD 1200-1300). The seal is pointed oval in plan, and has a broken lug projecting from the top of its apex and another break at the other end of the object. The front of the die depicts a large central crescent moon with a five pointed star above, and is surrounded by an engraved linear border outside which is an engraved inscription. The inscription is partially obscured by damage and wear which makes reading it very difficult. The back of the object has some cast detail which is unclear but may be a stylised bird with outstretched …

A slightly damaged pointed oval lead seal matrix dating to the medieval period, c. 1100 to 1350. The object is pointed oval shaped in plan with a sub-rectangular projection from the reverse which in some other cases has a hole through it to act as a suspension loop. The back of the object is undecorated. The front of the object features the central motif of an eight pointed star with a crescent moon. The inscription reads [S']THOE FIL ALANI (possibly translates as Seal of Thoe son of Alan).

A complete lead seal matrix dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1200 to 1400. The object has a circular face with a crudely inscribed cross with small lines in between the four arms. There is no attempt at a legend. The handle is also very crude and initially tapers away from the matrix before widening towards the end. There is a small circular hole through the handle, presumably for suspension. There are objects with similar matrices recorded on the PAS database, for example see LON-B86F23 and KENT-D5F071 although both of these have some attempt at a legend.

A possible fragment of a double-sided lead seal matrix dating to the medieval period. The object is flat and D-shaped, probably half of an originally circular object, with incised decoration on both sides. Both faces have a central device which is not reconstructable, although crossing lines can be seen on both. Both faces also have inscriptions. That on one face is set between grooves and appears to read ...LLV. WILEL (Seal of William). On the other side there do not appear to be grooves, and the inscription is harder to read, although the letters VM. R. PR can perhaps be made o…

A complete lead seal matrix dating to the medieval period c. AD 1200 to 1400. The object is a pointed oval or vessica shaped in plan with a sub-rectangular projection from the back. It is likely that this projection was intended as a suspension loop but the hole was never drilled through. The device is of a plant, possibly a stalk of wheat surrounded by the legend. The legend is difficult to read but possibly says S'THOME...RADVLFI which implies a personal seal. On the reverse there is a fleur-de-lys. Several seal matrices with the wheat device are recorded on the PAS databa…

An unfinished lead seal matrix dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1300 to 1450. The object is a pointed-oval in plan or "vessica-shaped". The front has faint markings which reflect the pointed oval shape. The back is undecorated with a small projection which may have been intended as a suspesion loop but never finished. Seal matrices of this shape become popular from the 13th century so it seems likely that this object is of a similar date. There are other unfinished, pointed-oval seal matrices recorded on the PAS database including SWYOR-E47505 and SOM-8B0EC3.
