A complete lead bulla of Pope Gregory IX, 1227-1241.
The obverse contains the legend GREGORIVS PP VIIII across three lines with a border of pellets although most of this has worn away. The PP stands for Pastor Pastorum or 'Shepherd of Shepherds.
The reverse depicts two busts facing forward with a crucifix between them. They are individually bordered by a line of pellets. Above the two busts are the letters SPA SPE which stands for Sanctus Paulus and Sanctus Petrus or St. Paul and St. Peter.
