A lead alloy pendant in the shape of an axehead of unknown date. The object is broadly rectangular although it widens at one end to form a broad, curved blade. There is a small circular perforation at the other end of the object which presumably would have been used for suspension.

Record ID: DUR-1054C0
Object type: DIE
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Darlington
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete but very worn die possibly dating to the Roman period. The object is a cube in shape although the corners have become rounded, possibly due to wear. There are small drilled holes on each side to give a number from one to six. From the middle ages onwards there is a tendency to place numbers on opposites side so that the total of the two sides is seven and has been called a regular layout (See Egan). This example does not show this layout and so could be earlier.

A complete lead alloy weight dating from the Roman to the Post Medieval period. The weight is circular in plan and has a D-shaped section. Record ID: DUR-BA3423
Object type: BUTTON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Darlington
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete post medieval lead-alloy stud or button. It is sub-circular with a domed front and a flat back. The front features incised decoration which focus around a circle which acts as the centre of a flower with six long, linear petals. Between each of the petals there is an annulet with pellet in the centre. Around the edge of the circle are a series of pellets which act as a border. On the back there is evidence for some sort of attachment which looks to be a circular projection although this has been sheared off. Probably 17th century.
