A silver groat of Robert III of Scotland (1390 to 1406) dating to the period AD 1390 to 1403. The obverse depicts a forward facing crowned bust within a tressure of seven arches with three pellets at the cusps. The legend reads ROBERTVS DEI GRA REX S.... with three pellets in a vertical line as stops. The reverse depicts a long cross with three pellets in each angle. The inner legend reads VILL/A ED/INBV/RGH with two small crosses as stops. The outer legend reads DNS PTECTOR MS F LIB ATORMS with means God is my defender and redeemer. The F in the outer legend is retrograde.
