A copper alloy object, probably a pin dating to the early-medieval period. The head is flat and lozenge-shaped, with a narrow flat shaft projecting from one of the points; the shaft is 10.31 mm long. The front of the head is decorated with a relief design based on a cross. There are five slightly raised circular bosses set in circles, one at each point and a central one; the bordering circles around the outer bosses vary in shape to fit within the lozengiform shape. Between each of the bosses there is a series of incised lines which create four sets of three rectangles (one inner rect…

A complete copper alloy pin with kite-shaped terminal dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 900 to AD 1100.
The object has a cylindrical section which tapers to a point. At the wider end of the pin there is a flat, lozenge shaped terminal attached at one of its points. At the remaining three points there are small, circular knops. The surface of the object has corroded which makes any decoration unclear.
Similar examples have been found during excavations at Coppergate and Fishergate in York. It has been argued that they are of an Irish type and moved with the Anglo-Scandin…

An incomplete copper alloy pin from the Early Medieval period (AD700-900).
The pin comprises a sub-spherical or globular head with flattened apex, decorated with irregulalry spaced stamped 'dot in circle' or 'ring-dot' motifs, which tapers to a short section of a collared broken shank, of which the majority is missing.
The general patina of the object is of a dark green; portions of the pin head have a corroded to reveal what appears to be an iron core possibly indicating that the copper-alloy is an applied outer layer.
