Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete copper alloy pin with kite-shaped terminal dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 900 to AD 1100. The object has a cylindrical section which tapers to a point. At the wider end of the pin there is a flat, lozenge shaped terminal attached at one of its points. At the remaining three points there are small, circular knops. The surface of the object has corroded which makes any decoration unclear. Similar examples have been found during excavations at Coppergate and Fishergate in York. It has been argued that they are of an Irish type and moved with the Anglo-Scandin…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A twisted silver wire finger ring dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 900 to AD 1066. The ring is made up of two plain, tapering rods which have been twisted together with a small wire. The object is sub-circular in plan and where the wires taper there is evidence for a break suggesting that the two ends may have been connected in the past. NCL-40E866 on the PAS database is very similar although it is slightly more ornate and unbroken. There is also a similar object in the British Museum, catalogue number 1921, 1101.376. Finger rings of this type are very similar to Vi…

A complete copper alloy styca dating to the period AD 830 to 867. The coin is very worn which makes the legends unclear. One legend possibly reads AHIXNEFX where the N is retrograde. This legend surrounds a central cross. The other side of the coin is more worn but some letters are discernable, EIX...NEVX with the N retrograde again.
