A sub-triangular, cast lead perforated artefact, probably a weight, dating from the Post Medieval period, AD 1600 - 1900. It is flat in profile, and sub-triangular in plan, with curved sides and rounded corners. The edges are bevelled. The reverse is pitted, perhaps from the casting process. The narrow end is perforated with an irregular hole of 3-5mm diameter. The weight is 41.9mm long, 23.9mm wide and 5.9mm thick. It  weighs 36.4g. The mass does not obviously fit into standard units of measurement, but the weight may have been used to add mass, such as a line or net weight.

A spherical, cast lead perforated artefact of unknown date, probably Medieval to Post medieval, AD 1200 - 1800, probably used as a weight. The hole is wider at one end than the other (4.4mm diameter to 2.7mm diameter). It is 14.6mm in diameter and 12.5mm thick. It  weighs 15.5g (0.54oz). It is slightly over mass to be a half ounce weight (which should be 14.1g), though it could be a half ounce in the Apothecaries' system. It is often suggested that objects of this shape are beads or net or line weights for fishing or birding.

An incomplete lead alloy trade weight dating from the Medieval or Post Medieval periods. AD 1280 - 1800. It is shield shaped and the front is decorated with a moulded double fleur design on a raised plinth. The weight has a yellow grey patina with areas of wear. The top edge is probably a cut of patinated sheer break. The top of the fleur design is missing, and the mass is too heavy for a 2 ounce weight and not enough for a 4 ounce weight. It is probably an incomplete 4oz weight. Similar examples can be found in Lead Weights; the David Rogers Collection on page 40 (Biggs and …

A small lead perforated weight of probably Medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1350 - 1700. It is a sub-conical weight with a small circular hole from apex to centre of base.  Measurements are; length 13.7mm, diameter at the base 17.2mm and weight 17.81g.  There is a hole running through the length of the object which is 1.6mm in diameter. The mass could, allowing for a missing suspension loop, be inetded to represent 12 pennyweight in the English Troy system (18.7g) which was in use from the 1350s.

A probable lead weight of probably Medieval or Post Medieval date, AD 1200 - 1800.  The weight is sub-cylindrical in form and tapers at the top. It has a flat base and uneven sides.  It is 68.2mm long and weighs 422g.  The base has a diameter of 35.9mm and the top is 20.6mm diameter. There is damage to one side that may have reduced the mass. It was probably intended to be a one pound weight in the Imperial, Mercantile or Avoirdupois systems.

A lead cone, probably a standing weight of either Medieval or Post Medieval date, AD 1350 - 1800. It is a solid circular cone of lead, with no decoration or markings. There is no suspension loop. Measurements are; height 49.8mm, diameter at the base 38.6mm and weight 249g. The mass is close to two thrids of a pound, or 1 mark, in the English Troy system of weight measurement (Egan, 1998, page 302). It may also be a weight to add mass rather than for measurement.

A lead disc, probably a Medieval or Post Medieval weight dating from AD 1250 - 1800. It is circular, with rounded edges and recessed faces. One face has a deep rectangular groove across it, wideneing to a small circle in the centre. It is possible this held an inlay marking the weight with its value. The other face is scratched and may be decorated, but the design is intelligable. The object is 25.2mm in diameter, 5.8mm thick and weighs 24.67g. The mass suggests it may be a slightly underweight 1 ounce weight, perhaps having more mass if there was a missing inlaid 1.

A sub-spherical, cast lead artefact of unknown date, AD 43 - 1900, possibly a perforated weight, a bead, or a spindle whorl. The object is sub-spherical. The ends are flattened and there is a central, oval longitudinal perforation of 6.4mm diameter. The weight is 15.1mm long, 16.9mm in diameter and weighs 17.53g.  Objects of this shape are often suggested to be weights for adding mass, such as net sinkers, line weights, or to weigh down birding nets or snares. It is unlikely to be a spindle whorl, because though spherical whorls are known from the Iron Age and…

A lead ovoid globular weight with the remains of an iron suspension loop, probably of Post Medieval date, AD 1500 - 1900. It is covered with dents and scratches and has a thin grey patina. The suspension loop appears to have been iron wire forming a loop at one end, but onyl the two stubs now survive. The weight is 60.4mm long, 47.3mm wide, 39.5mm thick and weighs 635g. The mass could suggest it was intended a 1.5lb weight.

A perforated lead weight, or perhaps a tubular lead fixing, of unknown date, AD 43 - 1900. The lead is oval in cross-section and plan, with a very large central perforation. the ends are irregular and may not be complete. The weight is 27.0mm long, 22.9mm maximum diameter and weighs 26.16g. The mass is close to one ounce, but as the object may not be complete, this may be a coincidence. The lead could also be a weight to add mass such as a line weight or net weight. Alternatively, it could be a convenient way to store an ounce of lead, effectively acting as an ingot.

A small wedge shaped cast lead object, probably a weight of probable Post Medieval date, about AD 1500 - 1900. It is rectangular at one end, with the other end flaring slightly and incresing gradually in thickness. The narrower end has a circular hole in the centre near the shortest edge. The casting seams are visible but have been neatly trimmed. There are no markings. The mass does not fit obviously into any standard systems of weight measurement.
