A lead suspension weight of probably Roman date, about AD 43 - 410. It is sub-triangular in plan, trapezoid in cross-section and is perforated with a square hole at the narrow end. The front face is worn. Measurements are; length 90.3mm, width 38.7mm, thickness 13.6mm and weight 300g. The mass is close to the official mass of 1 Roman libra (327.5g), suggesting a Roman date, though the form is not typical for the Roman period. A later date cannot be ruled out.

A perforated lead weight, or perhaps a tubular lead fixing, of unknown date, AD 43 - 1900. The lead is oval in cross-section and plan, with a very large central perforation. the ends are irregular and may not be complete. The weight is 27.0mm long, 22.9mm maximum diameter and weighs 26.16g. The mass is close to one ounce, but as the object may not be complete, this may be a coincidence. The lead could also be a weight to add mass such as a line weight or net weight. Alternatively, it could be a convenient way to store an ounce of lead, effectively acting as an ingot.

It has a white patina and is 17.6mm long, 14.4mm wide and 12.8mm thick. 19.2g. The wight is similar to standing weights in Biggs and Withers (2000) except that the weight does not stand. Three sides are longer than the other three sides, arranged alternately. The top is inset with a decorative copper alloy plate that is also hexagonal but with concave sides. It is a circular weight with a concave upper face, a small hoel through the centre and concentric rings on the upper face. It is stamped with a thistle at 12o'clock and a fleur at 6o'clock. It is 27.2mm long, 23.9mm wide, 3.8mm thick and 16.54g. The mass it does not appear to be a standard one, except possibly for 12 pennyweights at 18.7g (Egan, 1998, The Medieval Household, page 302).

There is a three pronged object in the centre, perhaps a crude fleur or a trident. The design is flanked by a large, reversed letter S on each side. The sides are burred over, probably a poorly trimmed casting seam, and the reverse is plain. The weight has a well developed cream patina. It is 52.4mm diameter, 7.3mm thick, 82.36g. A lead alloy square weight dating from the Late Medieval or Post Medieval period. The weight is square in plan and rectangular in section. Both main faces are decorated with a raised border and five pellets in relief. It has a well developed cream patina. With a mass of 28.4g, it is exactly one ounce. It is therefore likely to post date the changes to the weighing system occurring in the 14th century (Biggs and Withers, 2000, p 14).

A cast lead probable pendant weight, perhaps a net weight of probable Medieval date. It is lozenge shaped and at one end there is the remains of an integral suspension loop. Rectangular in section, the weight also has a deep vertical linear groove or depression in each of the two main faces. It is similar to but not exactly like objects such as SWYOR-FD5874 and LIN-E95894 of which there are many examples on the PAS database, usually suggested to be net weights for fishing or birding. With a mass of 54.92g, it could also have been intended as a 2oz weight.

A cast lead alloy Medieval trade weight dating from AD 1300 - 1500. It is flat, shield shaped, and carries the device of a crowned lis on a raised central area. The crown is open, with bifoliate extremities; the top of the central fleur of the lis just overlaps the crown's interior. It has a mass of just over 1lb. There are some patinated scratches on the reverse face. The weight is 85.82mm long, 68.5mm wide and 13.08mm thick. Similar weights are discussed and illustrated in Biggs and Withers, 2000, Lead Weights: The David Rogers Collection, pages 34 - 40. Compare also SWYOR-0F40D4.

A complete cast lead alloy probable line weight of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval (1st to 17th Centuries AD). The weight is sub-spherical in shape. The central hole is broadly circular and is positioned centrally. The internal diameter measures 3.9mm. This would seem too small for the object to be a spindle whorl. It is mid to light grey colour, with an even patina. It has signs of being abraded and rolled in the plough soil. This type of weight has been in use for a long period of time and can have multiple functions or uses, particularly for weighting lines used on …

A copper alloy possible weight of possible Post Medieval date. The object has a square base and tapering sides, narrowing to a long neck before swelling again slightly to form a suspension loop. It is solid copper alloy. There is no decoration and a smooth but patchy patina. It is 32.23mm long, 10.55mm wide and 9.84mm thick. This object could be a standing weight but at 10.72g (0.37oz) it is not obviously a weight in a standard weighing system. It is possible it was used for weighing a Tudor pound coin which had an official weight of 174 grains. This object weighs 165.6 grains. The…

A small lead object cylindrical in shape with a hole that passes all the way through the object from top to bottom. It is wider at the base than at the top. It is light brown/white in colour and has irregularly placed incised dot marks on it. The date and exact use of the object remain unclear, but it is possible that it is a spindle whorl or a makeshift thimble, the needle causing the small marks. It could also be a net weight or similar object. It has a length of 17.56mm, diameter 16.04mm, wall thickness 4.69mm, weight 20.99g. A similar object is GLO-C1C076.

A medieval, shield-shaped lead alloy weight dating from c. 1400-1600AD. The upper side is decorated with a raised, smaller shield, delineated by a groove. The device on the shield is largely illegible, but is possibly a crowned fleur-de-lis. Weights with this design are commonly found in the north of England. It is 43.1mm long, 33.2mm wide, and 12.1mm thick. The Metric weight is 113.4gm; the Imperial weight is exactly 4 ounces. Similar examples can be seen in Biggs, N. and Withers, P. Lead Weights, The David Rogers Collection, such as p. 40, No. 103.

A shield-shaped lead alloy weight. The lower surface is flat and undecorated; the upper surface has a groove that follows the edge of the shield, within which is a raised oblong with rounded corners. There is no other discernible decoration, but the weight is quite worn. It is 41.8mm long, 26.1mm wide, and 17.3mm thick. It weighs 103.74gm or 3.66oz which was probably a 4oz weight in the averdepois system, suggesting that the weight dates from the 14th century onwards (Biggs and Withers 2000).

A crudely cast conical lead alloy weight. There was probably once a suspension loop at the apex of the cone, but this is now missing. It is 39.9mm in height and 17.9mm in diameter. There is a concave depression in the base. It weighs 53.36gm or 1.88oz and may have been intended for a 2oz weight. Standing weights were used into the nineteenth century, so are difficult to date. This one has similarities with, but is smaller than number 73 in Biggs and Withers (2000).
