A lead ovoid globular weight with the remains of an iron suspension loop, probably of Post Medieval date, AD 1500 - 1900. It is covered with dents and scratches and has a thin grey patina. The suspension loop appears to have been iron wire forming a loop at one end, but onyl the two stubs now survive. The weight is 60.4mm long, 47.3mm wide, 39.5mm thick and weighs 635g. The mass could suggest it was intended a 1.5lb weight.

A lead standing weight of uncertain date, Early Medieval to Post Medieval, about AD 850 - 1700. The weight is roughly conical, but the base is pentagonal and the five sides taper as they extend upwards. The upper end of the weight is curved to the side and is damaged, making it unclear what shape it was originally. It is 35.1mm tall, 19.4mm wide and 18.3mm thick. 50.3g. This mass is only a little short of two ounces. Compare CORN-6BC1A8 and GLO-F61AB4.

A conical lead alloy standing weight of probable Medieval to Post-Medieval date, about AD 1300 - 1700. The weight is conical in form. The sides of the weight flare to the flat sub-circular base. The top is rounded and there is no evidence of an attachment loop. The weight is undecorated. It has a well-developed cream coloured patina across all surfaces. Weights can be hard to date due to being a functional item that has not altered significantly over time. Biggs and Withers (2000) note that standing weights made of lead were still used in comparatively recent times. It is 34.7…

A lead probable steelyard weight of uncertain date, but the lack of significant patination suggests a post medieval date. It is pear or drop shaped. The lead has a light grey patina and is undecorated. It has a length of 63.42mm, diameter 50.78mm, weight 741g. It does not seem to fit neatly into any common system of weights, but is around 2lb. Some weights of this shape are identified as Roman steelyard weights (eg: KENT-52E511), but they are more commonly planoconvex and tend to have an iron suspension loop. There is no evidence of iron on this example. However, similar methods of we…

A lead alloy probable standing conical weight. The weight is 23.6mm in diameter and 22.5mm thick. It weighs 51.6g. The cone shape has a flat base and a truncated top. There is a hole or circular indentation in the centre of the base which may go right through the weight, but the top is slightly squashed and it is impossible to be certain. There are diagonal scratches on the sides of the weight, and impressed marks on the base which may be deliberate stamps, but they are now unintelligible. The lead is light brown and white in colour. Lead weights are notoriously difficult to date and n…
