A copper alloy unidentified object, of uncertain date, AD 43 - 1900. It is possibly a vessel handle escutcheon such as that from a hanging bowl or similar vessel. It is a triangular or worn heart shaped terminal at the end of a rectangular shaft, probably broken at the end. The shaft is curved in profile. The tip of the triangular terminal is a more recent break. The other edges are rounded, very worn and patinated. There is no evidence of attachment or fixings. The object is 31.2mm long, 18.7mm wide, 10.2mm thick and weighs 11.73g. The strongly curved nature of the rectangular p…

A fragment probably from the rim of a copper alloy cooking vessel, probably of Medieval to post-Medieval date, about AD 1100 - 1900. Only a small portion of the rim survives, too small to estimate the rim diameter. The remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn and patinated. The rim is thickened and slightly everted. The fragment has a dark grey patina. The outer face is dark uneven with sooting, which suggests it is from a vessel rather than a bell. The inner face is smooth. It is 30.8mm wide, 27mm high and 4.7mm thick. 9.3g. https:/…

A ceramic sherd, perhaps a handle, of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval. It is a curved rod of ceramic, broken at each end, but apparently having all the other edges complete meaning it is not from the wall, rim nor base of a vessel. It could be part of a horizontal handle, or perhaps the rim of a flange. The fabric is hard with an irregular fracture, and is buff coloured, slightly darker on the outer faces. It has frequent poorly sorted inclusions, mainly of rounded black probable iron ore, but also large, white, opaque grains, perhaps stone. It is broadly oval in cross-section, w…
