An incomplete probable medieval copper-alloy "Octopus" type shield boss mount, dating from AD 1100-1250, of which only the central circular sectioned shank with a bulbous hemispherical terminal survives. The terminal dome has seven curved radiating grooves running from the centre to the circumference, with traces of a surface coating or inlay in the lines. The shaft has two swellings making it appear beaded, and then narrows where it could have fitted into the rest of the shield boss. The object has a green patina. A fragment of an Early Medieval mount from the apex disc on an Anglo-Saxon shield boss, dating from the 6th century. The fragment is a flat piece of copper alloy with one edge which looks to be almost complete and which is curved. The other edges are breaks and are patinated. The front face is decorated with Salin Style I. There is a double incised line border along the curved edge, then an inner border of ropework like design. A conical iron shield boss, dating from the early Anglo-Saxon period. The wall of the boss is short, and is almost straight but slightly convex. The cone is straight and the spike or button at the apex of the cone is waisted, with a flattened head which is broader than the shaft of the spike. Most of the flange is missing except for a short length that carries a rivet with a flat circular head and a shaft of rectangular cross-section. The boss is 123.8mm in diameter including the remaining width of flange, and 117 mm excluding the flange. It is 77.1mm high and weighs 486g.
