A copper alloy coated iron object, probably a nail or a similar fixing, probably of Post Medieval date, AD 1600 - 1900. It has a broadly square flat head, which is slightly curved. It appears green in colour, but gives a strong magnetic response. Projecting from the centre of the convex face is a central broken possible shank, sheared off on two faces. On the concave face is a ridge across the centre of the face. Measurements are; length 23.5mm, width 21.7mm, thickness 14.7mm and weight 10.52g.

A corroded fragment of nail, of unknown date, but probably Post Medieval to Modern. It is oval in cross-section with a circular flat head at one end. Thick corrosion covers the object, apart from at the base of the surviving shaft, where the bare metal is visible, revealing a nail shaft which is oval in cross-section, 3.4mm by 2.4mm. The whole object is 27.2mm long, 16.7mm wide and 15.2mm thick. the shaft covered in corrosion is 9.3mm diameter. 5.9g.

A copper alloy nail probably dating from the Post Medieval peirod, about AD 1600 - 1800. It has a square head, each corner of which has been hammered to for a sloping facet leaving a lozenge shaped flat centre. The shaft is square in section. The point widens slightly at the bottom to form a flattened 'chisel' or 'spatulate' shaped end. It is 64mm long, and 8mm wide by 8 mm thick. 8.28g. An iron nail of uncertain date, Roman to Post Medieval, about AD 43 - 1950. It is a large and robust nail with a rectangular domed head and a shank which is rectangular in cross-section and bent at the end, where it is also broken. The head is solid. The head is 44.9mm long, 44.2mm wide and 16.6mm thick. The shank is 49.7mm long, 11.8mm wide and 9.7m wide near the head, tapering to 7.8mm thick at the break. The nail is 64.6mm long overall. 118g. The nail is rusty and corroded.

A hand-wrought copper alloy nail, probably dating from AD 1600-1800. It has a square convex head with slightly protruding flanges and a square shaft which tapers in one dimension from 6.1mm x 5.4mm to 5.1mm x 2.2mm at the tip.The top of the shaft is marked on one face with a diagonal line in relief. The nail is 70.2mm long, 9.2mm wide and 8.4mm thick. 11.51g. There is no accepted method of accurately dating hand made nails, but it is known that they continued in use into the nineteenth century. A group of 3 iron nails of possible Roman date. They were recovered from a known Roman site, and are similar to Type I nails as classified by Manning (1976). Manning's type I are all of square section with wider round, square or pyramidal heads. One of these examples has a flat round head, one a fairly flat pyramidal head, and one has the head missing.

A group of four nails and two probable screws of probable Post Medieval to Modern date. Two of the objects have visible circumferential grooves and are probably modern screws. The other four are all nails, mainly rectangular in section. One has a T shaped head, two have rounded flat heads and one has a square flat head. They were found on Towton Battlefield, so have been recorded in case they are Medieval objects from the battle of 1461.

A large corroded nail of Unknown date. The object is square in section and tapers to a point. The head is rounded and bulbous, but flat on one side. The object is corroded and rusty but in otherwise good condition but is impossible to date as there are no diagnostic features. It was found on Towton Battlefield, so has been recorded in case it is a Medieval object from the battle of 1461. It looks a bit like the removable pin holding on the visor of a Basinet on page 87 of Weapons by the Royal Armouries, (2006).

A large corroded nail of probable Post Medieval to Modern date. The object is square in section and tapers to a point. The head is a "rose head" type, of a flat central area with four facets around it. The head is square and the underneath is sloped too. The object is corroded and rusty but in otherwise good condition. It was found on Towton Battlefield, so has been recorded in case it is a Medieval object from the battle of 1461. Nails are discussed in Hume (1969).

An iron T-clamp style nail probably dating from the Roman period. It has an anchor shaped head, wider than the shaft and with long curving arms, and the shaft is square in section. Part of the shaft is missing. It has a length of 34.13mm, width 34.93mm, thickness 6.45mm, weight 12.54g. For parallels which are a little larger, see Bishop 1996.
