A fragment of an Early Medieval silver cut halfpenny of Aethelred II (978-1016), probably Last Small Cross type (North 777) dating to c.AD1009-17, mint and moneyer uncertain. Ref: North 1994: 160. The coin has been halved and only the central part of the flan survives, the outer circle having broken away around the line of the inner circle removing all of the inscriptions, leaving just a small single cross pattee on the reverse, and part of the bust drapery on the obverse. Dimensions; Diameter 9.4mm, Thickness 0.3mm and weight 0.18g.

Two fragments of a silver early medieval penny of either Edmund (939-46) or Eadred (946-55), Horizontal/Two-line type (reverse type HT1; North 688 or 706), moneyer: Baldwin, mint: uncertain (Mercia/Wessex?). Ref: North 1994: 138, 141. The coin is in two adjoining pieces, an uneven break separating the two fragments. Together they form approximately a third of the coin. The coin weighs 0.43g. 17.5mm long (both pieces joined), 9.6mm wide and 0.8mm thick.

The coin is incomplete, with two thirds of the legend missing, and is cracked along the inside of the legend. It is 17.4mm long, 15.6mm wide and 0.4mm thick. 0.59g.

An early-medieval silver Merovingian (Frankish) denier, dating from c.675-750 (Belfort 5726-30). Ref: Belfort 1892: 207-8. The reverse of the coin matches those shown in Belfort nos. 5726-30 but the obverse is slightly harder to place, in part owing to its condition. Most akin to Belfort 5726 although this has no cross in front of the face. Many other deniers exhibit crosses in front of the bust. The place in the sequence of deniers is difficult to assess but given that this coin is a little corroded it indicates that the silver content is not high, suggesting the coin should be…
