A worn copper alloy Roman Coin, an as or dupondius of an uncertain ruler, dating to the Julio-Claudian period (c. 27 BC - AD 41), unclear legend around large S C. Such coins were struck under Augustus, Tiberius and Caligula, sometimes in the names of other members of the imperial family, such as Germanicus. Any coin of this type is rare in Britain as pre-Claudian base metal coins did not arrive in Britain in large numbers, in contrast to the silver denarii. The object has a diameter of 25.0mm, a thickness of 2.1mm and weighs 6.07g.

If the identification is correct, this is a coin of British Association as listed by D. Walker in his study of the Sacred Spring at Bath, cf. Walker, 1988: pp. 294, 297-8, nos.18-19; RIC III, p. 142, no. 930.
The coin is 26.3mm diameter, 4.5mm thick, 9.2g. It is very corroded with some concretion adhering.

PROVIDENTIA AVG reverse type depicting Providentia standing left holding corn ears over modius(?) and anchor? This is a contemporary copy or hybrid combining types of Julia Mamaea and probably those of Severus Alexander. Prototype of the mint of Rome. Cf. BMC VI, p. 212, no. 1002 for a similar hybrid example.
It is 18.8mm in diameter and 2.1mm thick. It weighs 2.36gm.
