Such coins were struck under Augustus, Tiberius and Caligula, sometimes in the names of other members of the imperial family, such as Germanicus. Any coin of this type is rare in Britain as pre-Claudian base metal coins did not arrive in Britain in large numbers, in contrast to the silver denarii.
