An incomplete copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon sleeve or wrist clasp dating from the 6th century, probably of Hines Form B18c. It is a catch piece and consists of a broken rectangular loop projecting from the centre of the front edge of a wide longitudinal raised bar. The bar is decorated with areas of transverse ridges and grooves at either end of the loop, and raised square areas at the ends. In the centre is a rectangular area which has a raised border and an S shaped motif in the centre. This is similar to dragonesque brooches, or S shaped snake belt fittings. On the other side of t…

An unusual copper alloy sleeve clasp of Hines form B12, dating from the early Medieval period. Instead of the normal sewing loops, this example has T-shaped lugs (called 'spiggots' by Hines); one on each end and one in the centre of the long edge of the plate, opposite the rectangular loop. The unusual feature is that instead of all projecting from the rear of the clasp, one lug projects upwards from the top, another downwards from the bottom of the clasp, and only the central lug projects rearwards.
It is a catch piece, consisting only of a bar, which is rectangular and is decorat…

An incomplete copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon sleeve or wrist clasp dating from the late 5th to 6th century (Hines 1993, 64-5), probably of Hines Form B18. It is a catch piece and consists of a broken rectangular loop projecting from the centre of the front edge of a longitudinal raised bar. The bar is decorated with transverse ridges and grooves. On the other side of the bar is a plate of five sub circular lobes. One end of the clasp is missing and there would probably have been seven lobes originally. Each has a deep depression in the centre, but is not pierced. Projecting from betwe…
