An incomplete copper alloy zoomorphic strap end, of Medieval dating (11th to 12th Centuries AD)
The artefact was originally constructed of two pieces: a solid upper plate, with projecting basal terminal; and an attached back plate, which is now missing. The upper plate has a horizontal top side; its long sides are also straight and converge towards the bottom. A narrower neck projects vertically downwards from the base of the plate, its height increasing as it extends into a terminal in the form of a forward-facing zoomorphic head. A complete cast copper alloy two part strap end, of Late Medieval dating (AD 1300 to AD 1450).
The strap end is broadly sub-rectangular in both plan and cross section. The longitudinal edges are bevelled and taper from the widest - strap end to a blunted terminal. The strap end is formed from two parts a cast front plate and a sheet metal back plate. The back-plate forms a < shape; this would attach to a leather strap. This is secured by a single copper alloy rivet which pierces the lower face. There is no evidence of either cast or incised decoration.

An incomplete cast copper alloy strap end of Late Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1500).
The strap end has been made in three (3) parts: front and back sheet plates, riveted to a 'U' shaped spacer. The base of the spacer projects as a multiple ridged knop. The top of the front plate has been decorated with a row of four (4) triangles. The edges of the front plate are incomplete. The back plate is plain and undecorated.
The strap end measures 24.92 mm in length, 8.58 mm wide and 3.77 mm thick. It weighs 1.4 g.
The strap end is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina.

An incomplete copper alloy, probable openwork strap end, of Late Early Medieval dating (AD 900 to AD 1100).
The probable strap end is sub rectangular in shape, with a flat cross section. Chip carved decoration, creating raised triangles is present on the from of the strap end, with neillo inlay present. Four circular holes (with an internal diameter of around 1.4 mm) are present in the centre, two on either side of the strap end. The reverse is undecorated.
It measures 17.6 mm in length, 13.8 mm wide and 1.6 mm thick. It weighs 1.5 g.

A complete copper-alloy strap-end with silver rivets, of 9th-century date, now slightly bent.
Description: The strap-end is made from a piece of copper alloy with a split attachment end. This is shaped around two well-preserved silver rivets whose heads are of different sizes. Below the rivets is a semi-circular or fan-shaped field, engraved with a trilobate motif. When the strap-end is held with the rivets uppermost, the trilobate motif appears to be a plant with drop-shaped centre (apex upwards) with a leaf to either side.
