A series of circular holes or indentations have been punched around the sides in horizontal and vertical lines, in a left hand spiral pattern. A probable complete copper alloy ring or open thimble, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (c. AD 1450 to c. AD 1550). This thimble is circular in cross-section and the side tapers inwards from the base towards the top. The outer face has around 18 vertical lines of drilled sub-triangular pits. Some of the lines are obscured by dirt or corrosion products. An engraved line is present both top and bottom. There are no manufacturing marks. The thimble consists of a flat basal ring, which extends slightly (0.6 mm) away from the body of the thimble. The thimble is 8.9 mm tall. A complete but slightly squashed silver finger guard type thimble of 19th Century AD dating. The thimble is conical with an oval section removed on one side. This oval section extends from the crown to 5.3 mm above the base, a maximum width of 11.0 mm and a maximum length of 18.9 mm. The other side of the thimble has been decorated with a panel of transverse ridges and grooves. The panel is 9.7 mm long. The grooves and ridges extend to the edge of the removed section.
