A complete copper alloy stirrup terminal, of Early Medieval (Anglo-Scandiniavian) in dating (11th Century AD).
This object is sub-rectangular and 'C'-shaped in cross-section. The convex front is moulded in zoomorphic form representing a beast's head. The eyes and nose are very prominent and the mouth is absent. One eye exhibits a thin sheet of silver, as decoration. The base and back of the stirrup terminal has been enclosed by a strip of iron / iron corrosion.
It measures 40.0 mm in length, 22.1 mm wide and 18.2 mm thick. It weighs 43.6 g.
