An incomplete cast copper alloy scabbard chape, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval period (1400 to 1600 AD).
The scabbard chape consists of the thickly cast front piece only. The thinner back plate is not present, presumed lost in antiquity. The chape is broadly U-shaped; the lower edge terminates in a knop. At the attachment end, there is a semi circular moulding within the incurve of the 'U'. Below the moulding, is a large central heart shaped perforation.
The scabbard chape measures 32.19mm in length, 22.08mm wide and 6.65mm thick. It weighs 5.1 grams.
