An incomplete copper alloy barb-spring padlock, of Medieval dating (AD 1150 to AD 1200). It has an octagonal case with a T-shape key aperture on the recessed end plate; the other end of the plate has a recessed surface with two rectangular apertures divided by a vertical septum which indicates a mechanism with two spring strips. The top face of the case has a rectangular recess which housed the projecting arm of the missing spring mechanism.
