An incomplete copper alloy socketed gouge, of Late Bronze Age dating (1000 BC to 650 BC).
Around 95% of the gouge is present, with the end of the socket missing. The gouge is sub rectangular in shape, with a u shaped groove, that tapers down the length, towards the end to create a C shaped end. A casting seam is present running the length.
It measures 60.9 mm in length, 16.3 mm wide, a maximum thickness 14.3 mm, a minimum thinness 7.8 mm. The depth of the socket 33.2 mm. The sides of the gouge are 2.2 mm. It weighs 30.7 g.
The gouge is a mid green colour with an even surface…
