A lead or lead alloy rivet from a cloth or bag seal, of Late Medieval to Early Post medieval dating (15th to 17th Centuries AD). One disc of either a two or four part seal is present, consisting of the rivet end. The rivet is conical shaped, but now bent over and not straight. It has a circular base, with a small rectangular strip at one side. This strip would have attached it to the other discs in the cloth or bag seal. The rivet has a base diameter of 12.0 mm and is 8.6 mm tall. It weighs 2.3 g. The rivet is a light grey colour, with an even surface patina. More complete examples…

An incomplete lead alloy four part alnage seal of Anne of England (AD 1702 to AD 1714). Around 50% of the alnage seal is present, consisting of one pair of discs, with rectangular attachment strips to either side. The other pair of discs are missing. One side displays the head of Anne facing left, within a pelleted border. The other side displays a unicorn rampart facing left, with I to the left and 1/2 to the right. A complete two part lead or lead alloy cloth seal, of probable Post Medieval dating (16th to 18th Centuries AD). The cloth seal consists of two circular discs, secured together with a intergral rivet, hammered flat. No traces of a connecting strip between the two discs survive. One disc has an incuse capital letter H with a smaller letter X below it. The other disc appears to have a capital letter A within a wreath on it. Soil is present between both discs. A complete but fragmentary cast lead or lead alloy two part cloth seal, from the Norwich Weavers Company of Late 17th Century dating. The cloth seal consists of a two part cloth seal, folded in half, with disc 2 being in two fragments. Each disc is sub circular in plan, with the remains of the connecting strip present on each one. Disc 1 (the front disc) bears the identification of the type of cloth, and disc 2 (the back disc), has a central hole for the rivet to go through and a figure for the length in yards of the piece as measured.
