An incomplete copper alloy domed button of Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1600).
Around 50% of the button is present, consisting of the domed head. The shank is missing. The domed head is undecorated apart from a concentric circle around the base of the head. The back is flat. A scar is present where the shank should have been.
It has a diameter of 17.9 mm and is 11.2 mm thick. It weighs 11.1 g.
The button is a dark green colour with an even surface patina. Some iron corrosion products are present on the surface.

The button is circular, with a concave back with an incomplete integral loop emerging centrally on the reverse. The upper surface of the button is decorated by a circular border towards the edge.

The button has a domed circular head, with a central pellet and curved radiating lines in a left hand spiral design. The back of the head is flat with a prominent casting line. The loop extends out from the centre of the reverse and has a circular hole. The internal diameter of the hole is 3.5 mm. The shank measures 9.4 mm in length.

The button is circular in plan and D shaped in section. The obverse of the object is convex and is not decorated. The reverse of the object is flat and has a circular sectioned, rectangular, single looped shank protruding from the the centre of the object, running left to right.
The object meausures 15.3 mm in diameter and has a maximum thickness of 9.8 mm (with the shank) and a minimum thickness of 5.3 mm (without the shank). It weighs 4.7 g.

The decoration on the front consists of an outer circular border, with an eight stranded star in the middle. Four of the strands terminate with a crescent shaped stamp. The head is a flat disc, with bevelled edges. Due to abrasion, the decorative detail on the front of the button is hard to determine. On the reverse, there is a central ridge, with two smaller ridges, one to either side. The central ridge is where the shank would have been secured.

A complete silver composite bi-convex hollow button, of Early Post Medieval dating (17th Century AD).
The button has been made from two domed halves soldered together, with a pair of opposing circular blow holes in the lower hemisphere. The blow holes have an internal diameter of 1.4 mm. A loop has been made from a piece of rectangular sectioned silver wire, folded in two, with the ends soldered onto the back of the button, between the two blow holes. No maker's mark is present.
