A complete copper alloy button of Late Medieval dating (15th Century).
The button has a flat disc like head, with an integral rectangular shank extending from the centre of the reverse. The shank has a drilled circular hole, positioned approximately centrally. The shank is 13.4 mm long, 9.1 mm wide and 3.5 mm thick. The attachment hole has an internal diameter of 3.1 mm. It has bevelled edges. The front of the button has been decorated with two incised circles, a smaller one in the centre and a larger one around the outside.

The button is mostly complete with the loop being folded against the button head. The head of the button is circular, and slightly domed, with a flat back. The front has an openwork design, with a central cross. The back demonstrates a central ridge. The loop was originally circular. The head is 4.5 mm thick.
It has a diameter of 24.9 mm and is 9.5 mm thick (including the loop). It weighs 14.9 g.

An incomplete lead alloy openwork button, probably of late Medieval dating (14th to 15th Centuries AD).
The button is around 90% complete with shank being incomplete. The head of the button is circular, and slightly domed, with a flat back. The front has an openwork design, with a central cross. The arms of the cross terminate with a pellet, with a central pellet at the middle. Along the external edge, a triangle is present, pointing inwards, creating an L-shape in each quadrant. The button consists of a flat circular disc head, with an integral loop on the reverse. The loop has been folded over at a right angle. The disc head is undecorated.
It measures 8.4 mm in length, the head has a diameter of 13.8 mm and is 4.1 mm thick. It weighs 5.6 g.
The button is a mid grey colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

The button can be described in two parts: The head and the shank.
The head is a flat disc, with a raised external edge. The centre has been decorated with a raised central pellet, with six straight diagonal ridges extending from it. The button consists of a hemispherical (domed), with an integrally cast shank on the reverse. Casting seams are present to either side of the shank. The shank consists of an oval sectioned bar, with a sub circular loop at the end. Traces of a V shaped decorative edge are present around the edge of the head.

A complete cast copper alloy button dating from the Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval periods, circa AD1400-1600. The button is circular in plan view with a domed head in section with a looped shaft attached to the reverse. The button face has a double linear incised design which divides the face into eight segments with hatching inside the segments. The design has a pelleted border. The reverse is plain with an integrally cast attachment shaft in the centre of the button. The shaft has a circular perforation. Diameter: 10.85mm. Length: 13.43mm. Weight: 2.6g.
