A rimsherd/fragment of a handmade ceramic vessel. The sherd is 7.14mm thick and weighs 28.9g. The sherd probably dates from the Middle to the Late Iron Age (c.-500 BC to 100 AD). Like most other types of pottery, prehistoric pottery is dated using fabric type, form types, decoration and rim shapes. As little prehistoric pottery has been published from the Warwickshire area, the dating of this material is broad, relying on material published from surrounding areas such as the Cotswolds. The fabric is similar to that published as SH1 (Standard common fossil shell type) in McSloy…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An irregular primary waste flake / debitage of probable Neolithic date (3500 - 2100 BC). This piece of flint has been deliberately removed from the outer face of a flint nodule to prepare it for further work and tool production. Conchoidal ripples are present on the dorsal (reverse) side. There are several flint removal scars that are mostly likely the result of plough roll. It measures 45.17mm length, 41.13mm width, 11.65mm thick and weighs 19.4 grams.

A secondary waste flake / debitage of flint dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods (2900 - 1800 BC). The flake is subrectangular in shape. A central ridge is present on the ventral (upper) surface. A bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples are present on the dorsal (lower) surface. The flake has less than 50% cortex (outer rind) present, which is a mid grey white colour, possibly originally from a chalk or limestone based procurement source. There are small flake facets present along the edges of the flake, most of these are uncontrolled, probably from plough roll. Ther…

A tertiary waste flake / debitage of flint dating to the later Neolithic - early Bronze Age (2900 - 1800 BC). The flake is semi-circular in plan. A bulb of percussion is present on the dorsal (lower) surface. There are signs of secondary retouch along the outer edges, possibly for reuse of the flake as a scraper. There are flint scars present from post depositional damage such as plough roll. This flake is clear evidence of flint knapping at the site. The flake measures 32.48mm length, 51.20mm width, 5.01mm thick and weighs 9.5 grams.

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Powys
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An irregular chunk of flint that has been irregularly kanpped, possibly being used as a crude core in the Later Mesolithic or Neolithic period (4000 - 3000 BC). All of the cortex (outer rind) has been removed. There are two potential striking platforms, with flint facets (long parallel scars). Post depositional damage is present with many small, uncontrolled scars present, probably the result of plough roll. The flint measures 32.09mm length, 36.39mm width, 26.76mm thick and weighs 40.6 grams.

Three secondary waste flakes / debitage of flint dating to the Neolithic or early Bronze Age periods (2900 - 1800 BC). The flakes are irregular in shape and demonstrate several flint facet scars. The flakes have less than 50% cortex (outer rind) present, which is a mid grey white colour, possibly originally from a chalk or limestone based procurement source. There are small flake facets present along the edges of each flake, most of these are uncontrolled, probably from plough roll. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present on any of the three flakes. The combined…

Four tertiary waste flakes / debitage of flint dating to the Later Neolithic - early Bronze Age (2900 - 1800 BC). All of the flakes are relatively small, being irregular in plan and profile with a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer faces. All demonstrate a series of varying sized flake facets present on the outer faces. There is no evidence of reworking or secondary flaking present, however all three flakes do demonstrate signs of post-depositional damage, probably from plough rolling. These flakes are clear evidence of flint knapping at this site. They have a c…

Two flint blades, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 BC to 2900 BC). Both blades are sub-rectangular in plan, with a triangular cross section. There are multiple small flint facets down the external edges of each probable blade. One of the flint blade is broken. The ventral (lower) surfaces demonstrate a bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal (upper) surfaces demonstrate a central ridge. The broken flint blade demonstrates signs of retouching down the external edge. There is a small amount of cortex (outer rind) present on each blad…
