An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting / sword belt fitting of Early Post Medieval dating (17th Century AD). The strap fitting consists of a circular hollow-domed plate with, at one end a projecting collared debased trefoil attachment knop, and the other end is an incomplete close butted blunt hook, with a double rounded collar at the junction with the plate. The reverse is concave, with the remains of a circular sectioned rivet to hold a securing plate in place. The strap fitting measures 33.9 mm in length, 13.1 mm wide and 8.5 mm thick. It weighs 5.1 g. The loop has a circular cross section. The rectangular sections would have been secured to either side of a leather or fabric strap. The artefact consists of a forward-facing sub-circular hook, with a lozenge-shaped cross-section, beneath an elongated rectangular suspension loop.
