An incomplete stone flat or discoidal spindle whorl, of Roman to Post Medieval dating (AD 43 - AD 1650). Around 50% of the spindle whorl is present.The spindle whorl is semi-circular, and rectangular in cross section. The central hole is sub circular in shape and has been drilled slightly off central, from both sides. The internal diameter of the hole measures 5.6 mm wide. Both the upper and lower faces are flat. An incomplete whetstone or hone, of uncertain dating, but probably Roman to Post Medieval (AD 43 to AD 1800). The whetstone is sub rectangular in plan, and triangular in section. It has been made from a fine grained sedimentary sandstone or siltstone. An old diagonal break along the length is present on the reverse, giving the whetstone fragment the triangular shape. A figure of eight shaped perforation is present at the top, indicating that it had been created by the use of a drill on either side. A fragment of a polished stone axe which appears to have been reused as a pestle. The axe had an oval section, 52.6 x 32.6mm, one end of which shows a hackly fracture. The other ends shows the faceted wear typical of a stone pestle or hammer-stone. This has been locally damaged with the loss of a large chip. It has been made from a fine grained rock, grains of quartz being visible in a black matrix. It measures 61.89mm in length, 53.79mm wide and 32.89mm thick. It weighs 171.4 grams. A single sub cuboid white stone probable tessera. The find consists of an sub cuboid tessera, probably made out of chalk or similar white stone. The top surface appears to be slightly polished which is the result of being walked over. The other surfaces are rough and irregular in shape. It measures 15.77mm long, 13.09mm wide and 13.23mm deep. It weighs 3.9 grams. The presence of tessera on a site indicates the probability of a mosaic pavement, and therefore a probable villa. An incomplete whetstone of unknown date. The whetstone or hone is formed from a very fine grained sedimentary, mica rich sandstone or siltstone. It is a light grey colour. It is sub-rectangular in shape, with tapering sides. The cross-section is sub-rectangular. Five sides are finely smoothed, with one edge demonstrating a rough fracture. A spindle whorl made of a rusty coloured fine grained sandstone. It is discoid in shape, with one face damaged resulting in the loss of the original surface on that side.
