An incomplete teritary debitage flake, of probable Mesolithic to Early Neolithic dating (6500 BC to 3500 BC). The flake is sub rectangular in shape, and triangular in cross section. A ridge runs the length of the dorsal (upper) surface. The remains of a bulb of percussion are present on the ventral (lower) surface. Controlled retouch is present along both sides and can be classified as short, parallel, semi-abrupt. It measures 38.7 mm in length, 12.7 mm wide and 4.8 mm thick. It weighs 2.1 g. The flint is a mid orange colour, with some surface patination occurring.

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped / struck flint blade probably dating to the late Mesolithic period, circa 7000-3500 BC. The blade is broadly triangular in plan and the section is trapezoidal. No cortex is present indicating that this is a tertiary blade. The flint is a slightly mottled light - mid brown colour and is translucent. Two central longitudinal ridges are present on the dorsal side, with some evidence of retouching.Concoidal ripples are present on the ventral surface. Length: 32.05mm. Width: 14.90mm. Thickness: 2.95mm. Weight: 1.7g.

Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped / flaked flint scraper, formed from a snapped blade / blade like flake, of probable Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic dating (6500 - 2900 BC). The scraper is sub rectangular in plan, and rectangular in cross section. It has been formed from the end of a blade / blade like flake. Controlled retouch is present along three of the sides. Conchoidal ripples are present on the dorsal (underside) surface. The scraper is a light grey / dark beige colour, with little surface patination. The scraper measures 21.21mm length, 23.43mm width, 4.88mm thick and weighs 3…

Two incomplete knapped flint blades of Late Mesolithic dating (6500 BC - 4500 BC). The first blade is sub-rectangular in plan, and triangular in cross section and is complete. It consists of a secondary debitage flake, as a small amount of cortex (outer rind) is present on the upper (dorsal) surface. A central ridge runs the length of the upper (dorsal) surface. There are two areas of deliberate (controlled) retouch, along the top of the blade and down the exterior edge at the top of the blade. The lower (ventral) surface is smooth, and does not exhibit any evidence of working s…

A broken flint blade, consisting of the lower portion, probably dating from the Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. A hinge fracture is present towards the tip of the blade, and deliberate retouch (several small parallel flake scars) along the edges is noted. The ventral (lower) face demonstrates some conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion is not present, being most likely in the upper part of the blade which is now lost. There are some irregular…

A core rejuvenation flake struck from poor quality flint of Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date (6500 to 2900 BC). It is subrectangular in plan. The ventral (upper) face demonstrates a series of ridges, with a hinge fracture present. The dorsal (lower) face demonstrates a bulb of percussion and striking platform. It has been taken from a core, for the production of blades, as demonstrated from a series of parallel flint scars at the proximal end of the flake. There is evidence of uncontrolled flaking scars along the edge of the flake, which are probably the result of post depositi…

A broken flint blade, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC). The blade is almost triangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. The ventral (lower) face shows evidence of the bulb of percussion and part of a striking platform. The blade has been deliberately broken. There is evidence of retouch along the dorsal (upper) left edge, with four small parallel flake scars. There are some irregular, uncontrolled flake scars present, suggesting later post depositional damage such as plough roll or movement in the soil. The…
