A complete copper alloy button and loop fastener, of Early Roman dating (AD 50 to AD 175). The head is inverted drop shaped (petal or tear drop), its upper surface largely occupied by a protruding boss with circumferential groove. The area beneath is of triangular section, tapering towards the basal point. The loop is triangular in shape, and springs from the top of the head's hollow reverse, extending horizontally backwards before angling upwards at 90 degrees. The clasp plate is sub rectangular in plan, and irregular in cross section. The left hand exhibits a fold in the metal, which would have originally gone round the strap bar of the clasp.
