A complete copper alloy finger ring, of probable Roman dating (4th Century AD). The finger ring is polygonal in shape, with eight external facets (octagonal). The hoop has an circular cross section. The facets are flat. Each one is 10.8 m in length. No decoration is present on any facet. The finger ring has a 21.4 mm external diameter, 18.0 mm internally. The hoop is 2.2 mm thick and 1.6 mm wide. It weighs 0.9 g. The finger ring is a mid to dark green colour with an even surface patina. Description: A complete enamelled gold finger ring, of Post medieval (17th Century) dating. The finger ring was originally circular is shape, however due to soil pressure, is now more of a flattened oval shape. The hoop is sub rectangular with moulded decoration on the exterior, and a flat surface on the interior. The interior surface bears an engraved inscription, in upper-case letters, reading: * NO FRIND TO FAITH. Small six pointed stars are used as stops between the words. No maker's marks are present.
