A complete copper alloy top jaw screw from a Post Medieval copper-alloy flintlock pistol.
The screw consists of a spherical head, with a single circular slot in one side. Beneath this is a horizontal collar, before it continues down with a short section with a square cross section. The lower part has a circular cross section and a left hand screw thread. The screw was used to hold the flint in place.
It measures 37.3 mm in length, max diameter of 9.8 mm and it weighs 4.5 g.
A similar top jaw screw was recorded as SUR-1165B5 and is of Post medieval dating (AD 1700 to AD 1800).
